The University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies will honor one of its own — former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — at a fundraising dinner taking place in late summer.
Rice, the 66th U.S. Secretary of State and the dinner’s keynote speaker, will be given the 2010 Josef Korbel Outstanding Alumni Award by one of her predecessors, Madeleine Albright. Albright, the 64th Secretary of State, is the daughter of Josef Korbel, who founded the school in 1964.
The Aug. 27 event also honors MillerCoors CEO Leo Kiely and his wife, the Rev. Susan Kiely, and J. Landis Martin, founder and managing director of Platte River Ventures.
Leo Kiely will receive the 2010 University of Denver International Bridge Builders Award for his leadership in accomplishing the joint venture between Coors Brewing Company and Miller Brewing Company, making MillerCoors the second largest beer company in the United States. He shares the award with his wife, who is being recognized for her work as the founder of Women With A Cause, an international, not-for-profit organization that teaches sewing and other business skills to impoverished women living in rural areas.
Lanny Martin is to receive the Josef Korbel Humanitarian Award in honor of the numerous philanthropic contributions he has made. They include serving as chairman of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, vice chair of the Denver Art Museum and chairman emeritus of the Central City Opera House Association.
The dinner will be held at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center.
